I am often asked what is the most important element in music. (when I say "often," what I really mean is nobody's asked me but I like to tell people anyway - LOL) I think, like life, the most important element in music is timing and rhythm. To keep the "music is life" theme, also like in life, you can make a mistake with the notes and nobody will notice (make the same mistake twice and people might think it was on purpose.... hmmmm...) If you make a mistake in rhythm and timing and EVERYONE knows! Isn't that true Steele and Tommy? Ultimately, rhythm is about your heart.
In music, I've always been blessed with *cough, cough* stellar rhythm and timing ( #blacklivesmatter ) - ok, not really, and my timing in life is just as inconsistent sometimes. Sometimes it's just so off... it might be just right.
So remember to count OUTLOUD, go slow, accuracy over speed, and the metronome is your best friend... even in music.
